20.5" Largemouth Bass caught by Henry V fishing on Monday May 25, 2015 at 13:14 near Chapel Hill in Orange County, North Carolina (NC), United States North America

've been out kayak fishing for 4 of the past 5 days. Those days included a kayak tournament (CKA - Shearon Harris Lake) and a few float trips. All told, I landed 9 different species of fish: Warmouth, LM Bass, Yellow Perch, Redfin Pickerel, White Perch, Pumpkinseed, Red-ear sunfish, bluegill and white crappie. I also lost a big Chain Pickerel and had two Bowfin stalk my lure to the kayak.

This is one of the highlights: a fat LM Bass that tried to wrap me around a tree. The strategy almost worked, but then I squeezed my kayak around a branch and fought the fish in open water.

Hi Adam,

No, these are competitive tournaments. Large fields of 50-90 anglers.
I did Carilina Yakfish years ago, then this new series, Carolina Kayak Anglers.
Look em up - it's fun. There are cash payouts starting at$500 for 1st place.
They also give away kayaks.

A great national series is River Bassin'.
They have events all over country. Good prizes too.
No lakes though - only rivers. So different rules.

NC is the world capital of kayak design and fishing. It's a good scene.

Bassassin201: No, it isn't a stand up. I fished a stand up the last 2 years. It was an older Jackson Coosa. It's an amazing kayak, but you sacrifice speed for stability. The Coosa is heavier and wider, so it doesn't cut water or track as well as my Tarpon 120. I prefer the Tarpon when I have to paddle long distance - it requires less effort.
