Brook Trout caught by Joe Brown fishing on Saturday October 27, 2012 at 22:36 near Hackettstown in Warren County, New Jersey (NJ), United States North America using a Joe's Flies wooly bugger pattern a In-Line Spinner

Water on the Musconetcong was low and very clear. I spoked a couple of fish before I cot this one. Thought I was going to come up empty.

I was using my spinning gear. I only had an hour and a half to fish and am still not that confident with the fly rod, especially when the fish aren't rising. My plan was to use the spinning rod until I caught something and then break out the fly rod to try my hand at nymphs and streamers. I got this one just before it was time to pack up and go home. Now that I have one caught this fall, I may just use the fly rod for the rest of the season.
Dennis, I think I was technically still in the park, but definitely toward the end. I was wading in a spot when some locals showed up on the bank and started casting right where I was working. So I walked up another hundred yards and worked around a fallen tree where I connected with this guy. I didn't measure it, but I guess it was around 12 or 13 inches. He was all head and belly. Not as strong or big as the fall stocked rainbows I caught in years past, and nowhere close to the two holdover trout I caught last year. But still, I'm glad I made that one last cast!
