Rainbow Trout caught by Joe Brown fishing on Sunday April 29, 2012 at 20:48 near Denville in Morris County, New Jersey (NJ), United States North America using a In-Line Spinner by Joe's Old Lures

Scrappy little guy. Fought hard for a stocked fish (I assume it was a stocked fish). Had the nice rainbow beauty photo all line up when he jumped out of my hands into a pile of leaves. Trout are just too slippery to photo with one hand.

Thanks for the advice, Brian!
I'll take all that I can get.

You don't really need a trolling set up to troll at Areoflex. If you wait till June, the thermocline will be pretty high up. It will keep the fish up to 15-18 foot under the surface. Use a deep diving crankbait and troll it way behind the boat and it should get to the fish. I got 2 there doing that. I also got one at dusk casting a tiny crankbait to fish crashing the surface. But I've done best there live-lining herring and medium size shiners. It will get you salmon, big trout, bass and picks. I have to warn you, its a really hard lake to fish. One spring/summer I fished there every weekend and only got 5 landlocked salmon.

I think so, Brian. Most people I've talked to about it go trolling for them, but I'm not set up for that. Looking into jigging strategies. Any advice?

Where you going for landlocks, Joe? Lake areoflex?

Dennis, the bite is really starting to kick in around here.

Angelo, I was tempted, but I released him. I'm not above catch-and-take every now and then, but there's a lot of other anglers in that area and I try not to get greedy until everyone gets a chance. I'm going for landlocked salmon in a few weeks, though, and if I catch one, I might not be so magnanimous.
